I’ve been a midwife since 2008 and have personally experienced both high-risk and low-risk pregnancies.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed the evolving state of maternity care in the UK, and frankly, I’m deeply concerned. The pandemic highlighted and worsened issues that were already there, and in some cases, care has become distressingly impersonal—sometimes even harmful. Women deserve so much better.
The research that guides care is often a decade behind current understanding, leaving many women feeling frustrated and powerless when their informed choices fall outside hospital policies or guidelines. This needs to change. You—not anyone else—should have the ultimate say over your body and your baby.
No woman should finish her pregnancy, recovering from a birth experience that left her feeling sidelined or traumatized. Instead, you should hold your baby with pride, knowing that you made the choices, birthed your baby (in the way that’s right for you), and are stepping into parenthood with confidence.
Yet, with overstretched resources, midwives often don’t have time to provide the thoughtful preparation and guidance that make all the difference. Antenatal classes have been cut in many places, and vital postpartum advice is often rushed or missing entirely.
That’s why I created this resource. I’m pouring my years of experience into this website to give women everywhere the support, knowledge, and empowerment they deserve. If I haven’t covered something you need, just reach out—if I can’t help directly, I’ll point you to someone who can.
You and your baby deserve nothing less.
Book a telephone call with Nickie, discuss your own concerns and get support and signposting to what you want to do next. Might be more than an hour if needed.
